After falling on opening night in Penticton the Smoke Eaters erased a 3-0 deficit on the road in Merritt against the Centennials, charging back to win 7-4. The start by no means was what the Smoke Eaters had wanted but from the second half of the first period on they out scored the Cents 7-1 in the final 50 minutes of the game. The powerplay also went to work going 3/4 on the night, giving the two units a bit of confidence after getting limited opportunities to work during the preseason. While we’re just two games into the season it’s the returning group that has made the biggest impact with Adam Parsons and Nic Remissong leading the team in scoring, While Cobetto-Roy and Adam Marshall also made their impacts felt on the weekend, each picking up three points on Saturday night. The Smoke Eaters will have to play a full 60 minutes against the Bucks, who took advantage of the Smoke Eaters’ mistakes in the preseason meetings.
Smoke Eaters leading scorers:
Parsons (3-1-4)
Remissong (2-1-3)
Cobetto-Roy (1-2-3)
Disher (0-3-3)
Marshall (0-3-3)
The Bucks also split their opening weekend on the road against the same two teams as the Smoke Eaters, as the Bucks won their opening night game against Merritt 5-2 before falling on Saturday 7-1 against Penticton. It was two different starts for the Bucks, who on Friday in Merritt were up 3-0 after the first, scoring three in a six minute span halfway through the first, where on Saturday in Penticton, the Bucks were down 3-0 inside the first three minutes. From there they weren’t able to recover and like the Smoke Eaters lost 7-1. The Bucks will be looking to bounce back from that performance, where they only mustered 17 shots, with 6 being their total per period.Â
Bucks leading scores:
Pfoh (2-0-2)
Henry (1-1-2)
Hjartarson (1-1-2)
Morrissey (0-2-2)
Silich (1-0-1)
